The Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation. He announced the extension of the non-working days in Russia, due to the new coronavirus, until the end of the month. Additional decisions could be made in the regions of Russia on their own, depending on their situation with the coronavirus. A reduction of the non-working period was announced as well. The President underlined that the wages still remain during this non-working period. The head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, reported a shelling of two Syrian settlements — Serakib in Idlib, and Kharab-e-Sheikh in Latakia, by the terrorist organizations ‘Jabhat al-Nusra’ and ‘The Islamic party of Turkestan». Oleg Zhuravlev also said that a coordinated patrol of the Russian and Turkish military took place in Aleppo province. Earlier the SANA news agency reported that on Wednesday night «the armed opposition fired several artillery shells at the town of Sarakib». The SANA news agency reported that the Syrian air defenses repelled a missile attack by the Israeli aircraft near the city of Homs. According to the SANA — the Israeli air force launched an air strike from the Lebanese airspace. The ‘Al-Hadath’ TV reported that the military airbase Shayrat, located 38 km east of Homs, was attacked by the IDF. At least 8 missiles were fired at the airbase. The ‘Al Mayadeen’ TV reports that the US started deploying ‘Patriot’ AA missile systems in the Anbar province of Iraq, located in the west of the country. It was specified that the air defense systems are being deployed in the ‘Ain al-Assad’ military base, in which some of the US-led international anti-terror coalition forces are located. No comments were received from the Iraqi authorities on this issue. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian military experts continue their work in the Italian region of Lombardy. The Russian military doctors, together with their Italian colleagues, carried out a complete disinfection of “20 retirement houses in the cities of Lombardy. More than 80,000 square meters of indoor space have been processed” — the report specified. The Russian Ministry of Defense added that on 6th of April the Russian and the Italian medical groups plan to begin a joint work on receiving and treating patients with the new coronavirus in a field hospital in Bergamo, which is designed for 142 patients. The hospital will have more than 200 Italian and Russian specialists. During a UN General Assembly, Ukraine, Georgia, the UK, the USA, and the EU did not support the draft resolution, proposed by Russia, calling for the lifting of the one-sided sanctions that prevent countries from fighting the new coronavirus. The Russian Permanent Representative to the UN underlined that this decision will complicate the containment of the pandemic. Earlier the UN General Assembly adopted an alternative, a more general draft resolution, calling for «the solidarity of the countries in the fight against the pandemic», which ignored the proposals of the UN Secretary General to lift the sanctions.
